About Me - My Zumba Journey

Let's face it I needed to lose weight and fill the void of my children all being at school, My sister-in-law suggested a Zumba class.  After one class I was hooked and after a couple I decided that there would be no better way to entertain children than to bring this fun dance fitness class to them too.  Why should the kids miss out after all!

My earliest memory and one that makes me smile every time is doing the "chicken dance" at a disco with my Nan and my family.  I've always loved to dance and it makes me happy, it's that simple.

When I was a child I attended aerobics classes with my Mum and I used to love it; the connection of doing something together was just brilliant; then Line Dancing with both my parents, my Dad bought us nothing but laughter but I loved him for it.  When I wasn't dancing something was up!!!

So in July 2011 I trained to become a Zumba Instructor with the intention of teaching children (yes, just children!).  If someone had told me that I would end up teaching adults as well I would have ran away.  What me, on stage, dancing with everyone else, I don't think so .... just goes to show how wrong I was and how much Zumba has taken over my life.  I love it and I love bringing that love to everyone else and sharing that feeling.

In October 2011 I completed my Zumba Kids(r) training, and within a few weeks was seeing just how much fun it was teaching children and watching them grow in confidence as they showed me their dance moves.  You really see a child's personality come shining through after a few weeks of crazy moves and lots of laughter.  The children I teach amaze me, they are just brilliant and I am proud of each and every single one of them.

Now in July 2013 I find myself running adult and children's classes, teaching in schools and taking part in public events in and around Thornbury.  And yet still, every class, every event, every hour is different ..... there's always something new and exciting to discover ..... I say bring it on!!

One of the best things about Zumba and Zumba Kids is that it brings people together, I see this with children and adults alike ..... people need other people, people need laughter, people need to belong ..... Zumba isn't just about the fitness and the dance it's about the community!!  And yes, we burn calories ... and yes, we sweat and yes we tone and change our body shape ... I've seen it people changing before my very eyes but that's just a small part of why it's such fun.  I've met some amazing new friends through Zumba and Zumba Kids.  It's the whole package and that's why I encourage everyone to join in and have a go, don't ever be afraid to rock up to a class by yourself, never be afraid to let go but do be prepared to have to buy a whole new wardrobe cause I'm telling you .... you may need smaller clothes!!!  I have gone from a size 14 to a size 8 and lost over 3 stone in weight (yes honestly) and I feel the best I have for years - so don't delay, don't put it off any longer join me.

Zumba love

Amie x
